EL PROBLEMO

Been watching the DNC the past few days. I must say, those Dems are eloquent. They know how to inspire through rhetoric. I admire them. Most of them talk with a sense of purpose. Like Al Gore. His speech was exquisite. But Barack Obama. I commend him, because he speaks from the pit of his soul. His words resonate, they echo throughout his innards before they come out. He is just so personable, truly inspiring. He's got that wit, intelligence, charisma, ability to really lead. He's great, and I would be proud to vote for him. What I love about him is that his ideas are my ideas. I have previously pondered everything he's said on my alone/reflection time. He actually says aloud stuff I think most people think of but keep inside their heads, because the ideas are so idealistic that most of America's "cynical assholes" (from "Big Daddy") will shoot them down and belittle them. Well, I concur, Mr. Obama; I concur.

He's a broad thinker, and I think most Dems are. The problem with conservatives--as judging from my experience with them--is that they declare themselves Republicans based solely on their economic ideals. That is just so greedy, so self-centered a way to think. They don't want to share their piece of the pie. I've earned this pie; and even if I can't finish it, I will throw it away so nobody who didn't earn it can't eat it. Even those starving kids without health insurance.

They say, "Oh, I think people should earn whatever they get." Of course, if you are actually able to live in a decent home, go to school, indulge in some reasonable pleasures, this way of thinking works for you. But it would only work broadly if every American started life with equal opportunity. Those living in crime-ridden, dirty neighborhoods--their lives begin on the wrong side of the tracks. How do they expect to earn a decent living if all odds are against them from the time they're born? Their relatives are all gang bangers. They can't get out with education because of the lack of resources. They can't get a high school diploma, so in order to survive, some resort to illegal activity.

You think they chose this life? It's called structural racism. Its roots lie deep in their community's history, back in the time of segregation. This crap has legacy. It passes on down generations. Poor quality of life perpetuates. It all began when the government first refused to invest. It began when the government saw minorities as less-than-human.

These are the kinds of problems that Republicans overlook. They care about making a buck. That's it. Screw you. Obama said it best. He mentioned the conservative viewpoint--something about pulling up your own boot straps. But you can't pull up your own bootstraps when you have no boots. Classic.

The conservatives really do fail at looking at the bigger picture. They are so insular. So narrow minded. It's practically disgusting! People are willing to vote for a conservative candidate on the sole basis that they are pro-business. Can they understand, please, that government should first and foremost be protecting its people's rights and liberties, rather than meddling in private sector affairs? Who cares about business when your life is on the line? Our Livelihood is really only afforded by the Rights and Liberties we hold. Conservatives restrict our rights--they willingly abridge our rights to choose whether we may have an abortion, whether we should follow Christian values, whether our friends may marry, whether our dying loved ones can hold on to their last ounce of hope in stem cell research. It's just disgusting how callous the Republican party's ideals are--at least what they've become. All they care about is money. Money has no value unless people are alive to value it. Peter Mehlman said it best. Bush (and his regime) is the first not to have the People's best interest at heart.

I remember walking out of Psych with that girl. And what she said really bothered me. Telling me she's a Republican because she believed people should work hard for what they got. Yes, everyone should work hard, but it doesn't mean that no one needs help. Everyone should work hard for themselves. Right, so the government shouldn't be working hard for corporate, so the big CEOs can sit back, relax and reap the benefits. This line of thinking. This line of horrendous ideology that is so narrow, is so grossly naive. To vote on one issue without considering its wide-reaching side effects. My gosh, just shoot me. That's like voting for Bush because he loves oil companies, then ignoring the rest of the ills he has caused this country.

By the way. It seems that Bush gets away with a lot of crap because he plays stupid. If a smart and intelligent president was caught engaging in these kinds of shenanigans, he would be viewed as sly and evil. But because Bush seems stupid, it's seeming that America is ready to forgive him, because he makes everything seem like a mistake. His dumb is working his way.
